Terms of service

What knowdust is
knowdust is a markdown notebook with version history built in. You log in and write; every save is quietly kept as a version you can browse and restore. The service is built and operated by a solo developer.
By creating an account or using knowdust, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the service.
Your account
You need an account to write in knowdust. Keep the information on it accurate, keep your credentials safe, and don't share your account — one person per account. You are responsible for what happens under your login.
Acceptable use
Use knowdust for writing and keeping notes. Don't use it to:
- store or distribute content that is illegal where you or we operate,
- abuse the service or its infrastructure — for example, automated scraping, attempts to overload our servers, or circumventing plan limits,
- attempt to access other users' accounts or data.
Your content
Your notes are yours, entirely. knowdust claims no ownership of and no rights over your content beyond what is technically needed to store it, version it, and display it back to you. You can export everything as a zip at any time, on any plan, for free.
Payments
knowdust has a Free plan and a Plus plan at $5/month or $48/year. Paid plans are processed by Polar.sh, acting as Merchant of Record — Polar is the seller of record and handles payment processing and applicable taxes. Purchases are also subject to Polar's terms.
Plan changes and cancellation
You can cancel anytime from the billing portal. Access to paid features continues until the end of the period you've paid for.
After a downgrade, your notes remain accessible and exportable on the free plan. History beyond the free 7-day window becomes unavailable to browse — it is not deleted immediately, and it comes back if you upgrade again.
Service availability
knowdust is provided "as is." We work to keep it fast and reliable, but uptime is best-effort and the current plans carry no SLA. We may modify or discontinue features, and will give reasonable notice for meaningful changes.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms — in particular the acceptable-use rules above. Where practical, we'll warn you first.
You can delete your account and all of its data at any time from settings. See the privacy policy for how deletion works.
Limitation of liability
In plain language: to the maximum extent the law allows, knowdust is not liable for indirect or consequential damages — lost profits, lost data, or business interruption — and our total liability is capped at what you've paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
knowdust keeps versions of everything you save, but no service is a substitute for your own backups. Keep your own exports of anything critical — export is always one action away, and always free.
These terms are governed by the laws of [PLACEHOLDER: governing jurisdiction].
Changes to these terms
If we make material changes to these terms, we'll announce them on the site before they take effect. Continued use after that means you accept the updated terms.
