What is knowdust?

knowdust is a markdown notebook with version history built in. Plain text, beautifully kept. You log in, you write, and every save is quietly kept as a real, restorable version — that's the whole product.

The name

Know + dust. Knowledge accumulates like sediment — fine layers settling over time. Each saved version is another layer. Dig back through the strata whenever you need to. That's the whole idea behind the name: your thinking, layered and kept.

How it actually works

There's no save button. About a second and a half after you stop typing, knowdust saves your note and keeps that moment as a version. Write over something, delete a paragraph, change your mind entirely — none of it is gone. Open the history rail and every version is there, newest on top, like layers of sediment.

Restoring an old version never destroys anything either. It takes the old content and adds it as a new version on top of everything you've written since. So you can go back as often as you like, with nothing to lose.

Underneath, every note is a plain markdown file, and every version is a real Git commit, running quietly on knowdust's servers. You never see Git and never need to know it exists — but it's why "kept forever" is an engineering fact, not a slogan.

Who it's for

Technical and writing-minded people: developers, technical writers, researchers, indie hackers, students of their own notes. People who already like markdown, value owning their files, and want calm over features.

What knowdust deliberately isn't

It's not a knowledge graph, not an outliner, not a wiki, not a project manager, and not an AI-writing gimmick. Every feature request gets one question: does this serve "log in and write, kept forever"? If not, it waits.
